Message from the Headteacher
|
|
In one sense, it is remarkable to think that we have been back at school for a whole month and yet, in the same breath, it feels much longer than that as so much has happened.
We have had the hugely significant period of national mourning for Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the Bank Holiday for her incredibly memorable and moving funeral. We held our Main School Open Evening for prospective parents and students looking to join us in Year 7, at which our current school community really showed the best of itself and provided a warm and proud welcome to all visitors. I look forward to welcoming current Year 10 and Year 11 students and their parents and carers, as well as those looking to join us from other schools, at our College Open Evening on Wednesday this week, where I know our students and staff will do us proud again.
As Headteacher, the start of this term feels particularly positive as it is the first since I started at Warlingham School & Sixth Form College where the focus of September has been exclusively on education and not either implementing social distancing measures or organising wholesale COVID-19 testing of the school community. As such, it has been great to use this fresh start to re-establish and reinforce the key values and standards and expectations of our school community.

One of the most worthwhile, stimulating, and enjoyable activities in Music is learning a musical instrument or having singing lessons and then performing in an ensemble.

I would like to say hello again to all parents of Years 8 and above and introduce myself to our new parents for students in Year 7. My name is Laura Langley and I am the Careers Leader for Warlingham School & Sixth Form College.
This role is primarily about ensuring all our students in Years 7-13 follow a careers related learning programme that prepares them for the world outside our gates and to set them up for a successful future.

First House Competition September 2022
On Wednesday 14th September, Warlingham School & Sixth Form College held an Open Evening for potential new Year 7s and their families. Each house had plenty of students who volunteered their time to give tours of the school and help in departments. We would like to say a massive thank you to those students who got involved! The house with the most helpers would win the first House Competition; and the results are in...

Tutee of the Fortnight
In house assemblies this year, students have been introduced to the Johnson House ethos:
As a member of Johnson house we:
- Are resilient – we keep going when things are hard.
- Improve – we aim to do better than we have before.
- Celebrate and support everyone in our community.
- Are proud to represent and be part of Johnson House.
Tutors have been identifying one student each fortnight that has embodied this ethos to win ‘Tutee of the Fortnight’. Well done to those that have been selected for the first fortnight...

Sharman Year 11 Leaders
This school year, Mrs Bristow and Mrs Payne have selected two Year 11 Leaders to represent Sharman house.
A Sharman Year 11 Leader should be a student who permeates courage, commitment, and kindness, who gets involved, has good relationships with their peers and teachers. A student who sometimes may get it wrong but they’re not afraid to apologise and start again. Ultimately, these students should be role models for our younger students and a friendly face around the school. This is why our Sharman Year 11 leaders are...

Please donate your pre-loved uniform
Our pre-loved uniform has become hugely popular and valued by many. All proceeds from the sales are used to fund additional resources for our highly regarded Bridge facility within school, which supports students in a variety of ways. Donations should be handed in to Student Services, preferably by students.
Many thanks for your support.

As part of our registration activities, students have the opportunity to learn about and debate topics each week, using resources from VotesforSchools. This helps provide students with a wider understanding of current affairs, develops their empathy and kindness skills when considering sensitive issues, and also enables them to practise forming arguments and debating.
|
Furthermore, they have their voices heard as VotesforSchools shares the voting outcomes with a variety of organisations, including governments and charities.
Recently, students have discussed the topics 'Should the Homes for Ukraine scheme be for more refugees?' and 'Is it right that the Prime Minister kept his job after ‘partygate’?'
See the latest vote results below with our school's results indexed against the national votes.
