Message from the Headteacher
|
|
It was a real pleasure to spend the morning of Remembrance Sunday in Warlingham at the parade and Ceremony of Remembrance on The Green. The coming together of so many different elements of the local community to pay our respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice – giving their tomorrow’s for our today – was both inspiring and humbling.
The group of students I had the pleasure of walking with at the parade took their roles as representatives of the whole school community very seriously and did so with dignity and thoughtfulness. To listen to their sincere reflection on the negative impact of war, the changing nature of it through the twentieth century and their admiration and respect for those who gave their lives, gave me real confidence that, even as the number of surviving veterans of those conflicts is becoming ever fewer, the importance of remembrance is not lost on the younger generations.

Work Experience for Year 10 and Year 12
We are pleased to announce that, after an incredibly successful event last academic year, we are continuing to run an in-person Work Experience event for Year 10 and Year 12 this year. This will be taking place between 10th and 14th July 2022. Students will be invited to find their own placement at a company or in a sector that interests them. They will then be able to spend one week finding out about the job/industry and getting to fully experience a workplace and everything it has to offer.
Due to COVID-19, we had been unable to run Work Experience for the two years prior to last year so this is a great opportunity for all the students in the year group to have an experience that really makes an impact on them and their future career aspirations. In the past, we have had students offered part time employment and progressing to training and qualifications with the companies they have had their placement with so it can be a life changing opportunity.

First up was ‘Guess How Many Sweets are in the Jar!’ In the morning, our Charity Team charged 20p to take a guess at the number of Halloween sweets inside a giant glass jar. There were 78 sweets in total and lucky Year 11 winner Jensen P guessed 77 and won the lot! Well done, Jensen!

As part of our registration activities, students have the opportunity to learn about and debate topics each week, using resources from VotesforSchools. This helps provide students with a wider understanding of current affairs, develops their empathy and kindness skills when considering sensitive issues, and also enables them to practise forming arguments and debating.
|
Furthermore, they have their voices heard as VotesforSchools shares the voting outcomes with a variety of organisations, including governments and charities.
Recently, students have discussed the topics 'Should the Homes for Ukraine scheme be for more refugees?' and 'Is it right that the Prime Minister kept his job after ‘partygate’?'
See the latest vote results below with our school's results indexed against the national votes.
